CLEANING YOUR
SPOTTING SCOPE |
Using the Soft-Tek microfiber cloth, wipe down the outside of
the spotting scope avoiding the lenses at this time. The special
triangular fibers in the Soft-Tek cloth will remove most dust and
dirt particles without the use of any liquids. If the Soft-Tek
cloth should become soiled, it can be washed many times without harm.
However do not use fabric softener when washing the Soft-Tek
cloth.
CLEANING THE LENSES
Start with the larger lens. Begin by using a very soft brush like the
Ultra Brush or a high quality blower brush. Brush away any larger
dust or dirt particles, working from the center of the lens towards the
outside. The Ultra Brush is retractable, so the brush fibers can
be retracted into the body of the brush and the cap replaced for
storage. This protect the brush fibers keeping them safe and clean for
it’s next use.
If the lens needs more aggressive cleaning to remove smudges or
fingerprints, use Premium Grade Lens Tissue and LensBrite
or Formula MC liquid lens cleaner. Starting with the larger lens,
wad up a few sheets of Premium Grade Lens Cleaning Tissue, and
put a few drops of LensBrite or Formula MC liquid lens
cleaner on the tissue. Starting in the center of the lens, clean in a
circular motion working out towards the outside of the lens. Before the
liquid lens cleaner has completely dried from the lens surface, continue
cleaning with dry wad of Premium Grade Lens Tissue in a circular
motion until the lens appears clean and polished.
The smaller lens is cleaned in the same way, only you may want to use
just one piece of Premium Grade Lens Tissue folded several times
to better fit on the smaller lens. It is common to find oils on the
eyepiece lens. You may have to clean the small eyepiece lens a couple of
times to completely remove the oils and smudges from this lens. Clean in
a circular motion using the Premium Grade Tissue and a couple of
drops of LensBrite or Formula MC, starting in the center
of the lens and working out towards the outside.
LIQUID LENS CLEANERS
LensBrite anti-fog liquid lens cleaner was developed and is
manufactured exclusively by Peca Products Inc. Anti-fog lens
cleaners provide anti-fog action by leaving an invisible film on the
lens surface after cleaning. It’s this invisible film that helps prevent
fog from forming on the lens surface.
Formula MC multi-coated liquid lens cleaner was developed and is
manufactured exclusively by Peca Products Inc. Formula MC
has been specifically engineered to clean multicoated lenses. Many
spotting scopes have sophisticated multi-coated lenses (sometimes seen
as deep purple, green or orange) which provide significantly higher
resolution and color fidelity during use.
For those customers who prefer to have a perfectly clean lens surface
after cleaning, Formula MC is ideal. Formula MC cleans
without leaving any residue or invisible film behind on the lens surface
after cleaning. Formula MC has been tested, approved and
purchased by NASA for use in the space shuttle program.
Peca Products Inc. manufactures both LensBrite and Formula
MC to give customers a choice in lens cleaners. LensBrite,
Formula MC and the Premium Grade Lens Cleaning Tissue are
made in the USA, manufactured by Peca Products Inc. in Beloit, WI
The Ultra Brush, Premium Grade Lens Tissue, LensBrite
and Formula MC have all been engineered to be safe for use on any
glass or plastic lenses. Maximum performance is only available when the
optics on your spotting scope are properly maintained and kept clean.
